This hummus recipe is very easy and inexpensive to make. No cooking required, just throw one of everything in the blender and whizz away. I use hummus as a dip or a sandwich topping and if you love garlic or chilli for a kick, the more the merrier.

Ingredients

1 regular size tin of chickpeas (drained)
1 tablespoon tahini
1 lemon (squeeze it – we only need the juice)
1 garlic clove with skin taken off
1 pinch of chilli powder
1 pinch of paprika (Hungarian or smoked or plain- we’re not fussy)
1 pinch of salt
Olive oil (just have the bottle ready on the side, you will use approx ¼ to ½ a cup)

Method

  1. Excluding the olive oil, throw into a blender or food processer all the ingredients.
    2. Whizz on medium high while drizzling in the olive oil a bit at a time until you get your desired consistency. I aim for a smooth slightly gluey dip-like consistency, just don’t get it to soup consistency.
    3. Throw the mix into a clean jar or plastic container and store in the fridge.

Troubleshooting and Tips

You can modify the garlic, chilli, paprika and salt to your own taste, some days I’m a little more adventurous and throw in more garlic (don’t do this on date night).
