Background on the booklet

This booklet was developed as a carer resource for those supporting people with eating disorders. Our carers include health care professionals, support workers, educators, friends and family (both biological and chosen family).

Although written primarily for someone suffering with Anorexia Nervosa, there are many cross overs in the ‘what to say’ and ‘what not to say’ for those suffering with any eating disorder.

This resource has been made freely available by the collaborators in hopes it will help increase education and reduce suffering for those with eating disorders.

About the author

Rachel is an Allied Health Professional based in Sydney, originally from the UK. Having received care for her own Eating Disorder across both England and Australia over the past two decades, she knows firsthand the positive and negative aspects of such care. This motivated her to create a resource to help health care professionals treating people with Eating Disorders, with the aim of improving patient experiences. In her free time, Rachel loves to travel, soak up nature and sunshine, and pursue her average crocheting skills. She’s also a sleep-deprived mother to both a child and fur baby.
